Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mustang sports have experienced cancelations. For fifth and sixth grade basketball teams, three regular season games and one tournament have been canceled due to team exposer and positive COVID-19 tests. They have only played four games this semester. Seventh and eighth grade basketball teams have played two games with four canceled regular season games. The high school season openers were called off. The Copan tournament turned into a round-robin because many teams were unable to attend. On the final day of the round-robin, another measure of caution was added statewide by Governor Stitt. To slow the spread, youth events cannot fill past fifty percent, and each player is limited to four fans. But despite these challenges, athletes still wish to compete and will continue the season with as many games as they can get.
"With COVID and all the regulations that come along with being exposed, we have had girls miss practice. That affected us negatively because we didn't get to learn plays or defense early in the offseason like I would have liked. That's frustrating because I didn't feel like we were prepared for our first game. I stay positive by knowing that we're getting better each day despite COVID." - Coach Kendall Huntington https://kfor.com/news/local/gov-stitt-to-issue-executive-order-limiting-indoor-public-gatherings-to-50-percent-capacity-except-for-churches/
